Hello

Welcome to Journey Quilting's Long Arm Quilting Services

I  would love the opportunity to work with you  to make your quilt something special for  yourself or a loved one.  I have a Handi Quilter  Fusion with a Prostitcher.  I started longarm  quilting in 2009 doing all free motion custom  quilting then in 2019 I added the Prostitcher, a computerized system for edge to edge.

    Edge to edge quilting

Edge to edge quilting is a great way to have your quilt finished at a reasonable price. It entails a single design that covers the entire quilt. It can be as simple as an all over meandering (least expensive) to a more intricate pattern with flowers, swirls and feathers.

Do you have a quilt that you want to put in a quilt show, spent a lot of time piecing or is appliquéd? Then you may want to consider a custom design. Custom quilting takes into consideration the quilting pattern and accentuates the design. This includes stitch in the ditch, ruler work and free motion quilting.  Because this type of quilting is more time consuming, it is more expensive and the price is determined by the amount and the density of the quilting.

    Quilt Preparation

Quilt of Valor Edge to edge quilting

    Preparing Quilt Top

To prepare your quilt top -

    • Clip loose threads from back of top  especially if you have a light top.
    • Press top and make sure seams are secure.
    • Make sure borders are not wavy (makes it harder to quilt the top without puckers in borders)
    • Mark the top edge of your quilt top with a safety pin.
    • No need to layer top, batting and backing. They are loaded on the quilting machine as separate layers.

    Preparing Quilt Backing

Preparing your quilt backing correctly is very important to prevent puckering on your quilt back.

    • Square up your backing fabric prior to piecing your backing. Wide back fabrics are harder to square up. You may find yourself cutting up to 5" to square it up so make sure to buy extra fabric.
    • If you need to piece your backing cut off selvage first and use a 1/2" seam allowance and press seams open. Having the seams on your backing run horizontal will help to prevent wrinkles on your quilt back
    • Your backing needs to be at least an extra 8 inches longer and wider than quilt top - that is 4 '' on each side.
    • Press the backing fabric and make sure seams are flat

    Batting

    • Batting needs to be 8" longer and wider than the quilt top  (4" on each side)
    • If you provide your own batting please use quality batting - you spent so much time making your top and the batting can make your quilt.

I use Hobbs 80/20 or Quilters Dream Select.
